Madras Gymkhana Club Golf Annexe
The Guindy Links — the Madras Gymkhana Club's 18-hole golf annexe laid out inside the Guindy race course since 1887 — was one of India's oldest courses and one of Chennai's three 18-hole layouts (par 70, roughly 6,600 yards per golf directory listings). It is now closed. The Tamil Nadu government revoked the underlying 99-year lease (signed with the Madras Race Club in 1945) and on 4 October 2024 revenue officials dug up the golf course with an earth mover and bulldozers; the Madras High Court declined to restrain the state on 18 February 2025, holding that the Gymkhana "is not the original lessee nor is it in possession of the subject land"; the state tendered for an eco-park consultant in June 2025; and by May 2026 the eco-park — 118 acres of the site's 160.86 — was under construction. What the land is now is a horticulture-department eco-park, not a golf course.

What we knowEverything on file, and what the sources disagreed about
The club itself is alive and its website is actively maintained, but it no longer offers golf anywhere: its current sports, facilities and membership pages list tennis, cricket, swimming, billiards, snooker, bridge, volleyball, pickleball, a gym and dining, and golf appears on none of them. No relocated course, replacement annexe or reciprocal golf arrangement is documented in any source reachable in August 2026. Two caveats are worth stating plainly. First, an orphaned older page on the club's own site (madrasgymkhana.com/sports-2/) still reads "The golf annexe is located at Guindy... a links type course of 18 holes, par 70" — it is an undated leftover carrying a pre- pickleball sports roster, superseded by the club's current pages, and it should be read as a contradiction rather than as evidence the annexe survives. Second, both Wikipedia and the golf directories still describe the course in the present tense and still sell tee times on it; those listings are stale and none of them carries a date after 2024. Sources also disagree on length: one golf directory prints 6,600 yards while Wikipedia's club article prints 6,325/5,765 yards. Whether any fairway survives on the roughly 43 residual acres is not documented either way.
