Ambala Kharga EPTA Golf Course
An 18-hole, par-72 army course of about 6,100 yards inside Ambala Cantonment, run under the Kharga (II) Corps' Environmental Park & Training Area. A golf directory dates golf here to 1891 — plausible for a British-era cantonment — and lists a driving range, practice areas, a teaching professional, rentals and a restaurant, with a course rating of 70.7/121. Official corroboration exists: the Comptroller and Auditor General's performance audit of Defence Estates Management (Report No. 35 of 2010) tabulates golf courses on defence land, and its Ambala entry shows 59.64 acres as of August 2009 — so a golf course on defence land at Ambala station is a matter of official documentation, not just a directory entry. The same report explains the naming: "In 2004, Chief of the Army Staff, however, declared Golf as a sports activity and not only a recreational activity. He further directed that Golf Courses would be named as Army Environmental Park and Training Area" — which is what the "EPTA" in this course's name stands for, and why 97 such courses existed army-wide by August 2009. The course is also currently active: The Tribune reported on 21 March 2025 that the Pentangular Championship "was held in Ambala" and is "played among five clubs including, Army Golf Club Ambala, Army Golf Club Patiala, Chandimandir Golf Club, Panchkula Golf Club and Chandigarh Golf Club". "Army Golf Club Ambala" is almost certainly this course — the audit lists only one Ambala entry and no second army course at the station is documented anywhere — but the Tribune does not use the EPTA name, so the identification is an inference. User-scorecard databases carry it as "Ambala Golf Course, Ambala Cantt" and "KEPTA New Ambala". The army publishes no access terms of its own; searches of indianarmy.nic.in, gov.in/nic.in, PIB and the Cantonment Board Ambala site (which has no golf content at all) found no official page for this course.
