The Coimbatore Golf Club

Founded in 1977 (first as nine holes on the city's jail grounds) and settled at Chettipalayam since 1985, the Coimbatore Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72, 6,540-yard course on 110 acres at the base of the Nilgiris, about 16–17 km south of the city (Wikipedia gives both figures). The club plays two tees — white at 6,540 yards and red at 5,893 — on Bermuda greens the club says run up to 10.5 on the stimpmeter. There is a driving range across from the clubhouse, and coaching from Indian Golf Union certified instructors by prior appointment.

The club is operating: its own site is genuinely maintained, and it posted a season- specific Handicap Policy 2025-2026 in July 2025 and revised its Club Rules and Fees page in April 2026. The published Calendar of Events, though, is still the 2020-21 season, and the "© 2026" footer appears unchanged on pages that have not been edited since 2020, so neither carries any weight.

The club does publish its money. Its Club Rules and Fees page lists entrance fees of Rs 12,00,000 for golfing membership and Rs 14,00,000 for social membership (taxes extra), member green fees, and — most usefully for an outsider — guest and visitor rates: Rs 3,500 on weekdays and Rs 4,500 at weekends for affiliated-club and guest visitors, and Rs 4,000 / Rs 5,000 for walk-in golfers, all subject to 18% GST. The eligibility lines are worth reading precisely (as of August 2026): the cheaper tier is labelled "Affiliated Club Members / Members' Guests", and the Rs 4,000/5,000 tier "Walk-in Golfers" — that is, any visitor, with no member introduction or affiliated club needed — but the same page attaches to both guest tiers the condition that "Golfers should carry a valid Handicap Certificate". A member's guests are capped at 18 days in a calendar year and a dress code applies; nine holes counts as half a round for members only, not for guests. The club is still best described as a private members' club — it has lakh-scale entrance fees and a 24-club affiliation list — but that published walk-in tier means the label is genuinely arguable. Note that the affiliation list names many other clubs, including Bangalore Golf Club and the Karnataka Golf Association; those are separate clubs, and none of the fees above are theirs.
