High Range Club
The High Range Club is Munnar's colonial-era planters' club, founded 1905, still run on membership restricted to corporate planters in Munnar with reciprocal rights at 41 Indian and 2 overseas affiliated clubs, plus heritage rooms and cottages that outside travellers do book. The club is alive; the golf is not settled. Dated Tripadvisor reviews from March 2025 and March 2026 show the club trading normally, and that — deliberately not the club's own website, a frozen © 2005 shell that says nothing about the present — is the evidence it is operating.

What we knowEverything on file, and what the sources disagreed about
Whether the nine-hole course is playable today is a separate question and it remains open. The course itself is not in doubt: the owner site describes "its own well maintained 9-hole golf course", Kerala Tourism agrees, and independent visitors described nine holes first-hand in 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2018. What is in doubt is day-to-day operation. A verified 14 January 2018 review reads "a sprawling Golf Course though not operational while we were there"; an August 2014 review had already recorded "a 9 hole Golf course which was closed in July (due to continuous rains)", which suggests those closures may be weather- or season-driven rather than permanent. Pulling the other way, an October 2023 guest complained the place "can't run on former glory or Golf course alone" and that "staff is just drawing their salary to serve the golfers" — a dated report of golfers actually being served, and the newest golf-specific evidence in either direction. Nothing dated 2025 or later speaks to the golf at all: the March 2025 and 2026 reviews do not mention it. The 2018 report is therefore not treated as evidence the course has closed, and the club's obvious liveness is not treated as evidence the course is playable. Hole count and type are kept as recorded, with the playability conflict logged on both fields and nothing guessed.
Access is the other hard fact here and it points one way. The owner states membership is restricted to corporate planters; a January 2024 visitor was turned away by a security guard "even for tea or a drink". GolfPass's claim that the club "is open to the public" looks like a generic template field and contradicts the owner's own statement — do not rely on it. No green fee, par, yardage, golf contact or visitor booking route is published anywhere reachable.
Relationship to Kundale Golf Club. These are two different Munnar-area courses, not one facility under two names. High Range Club's course is on the club's own grounds in Munnar town ("its own well maintained 9-hole golf course"); Kundale's is about 20 km away at Kundala village on the Top Station road, and Kerala Tourism, KTDC and munnar.com all describe that one as a golf course belonging to Tata Tea Ltd — a plantation-company course, not a club amenity. GolfPass's Kerala directory lists both separately, with different specifications (High Range 9 holes/par 33/2,595 yd/built 1905; Kundale 9 holes/par 35/3,080 yd/built 1918) and different phone numbers.
