Royal Calcutta Golf Club

The Royal Calcutta Golf Club, established 1829, is the oldest golf club in India and the first outside Great Britain, and still calls itself the home of Indian golf. It is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course on Golf Club Road in Tollygunge, south Kolkata, with a driving range and putting green. Sources disagree on its length: Wikipedia prints a 7,195/6,871-yard card with a 73.6/72.1 rating, while the PGTI's own hole-by-hole card for the course totals 7,237 yards and a PGTI report from the 2025 tour event says 7,014 — the record keeps 7,195 and flags the disagreement rather than resolving it. It is a private members' club, but its own website publishes a visitor route: players who can produce a current handicap certificate (24 max for men, 30 for ladies) book through the CEO's office, at a member's-guest green fee of ₹1,500 on weekdays and ₹2,500 at weekends, or a steep ₹10,000 "walk-in golfer" rate for the unaccompanied — all excluding GST, all from the official charges page, which carries no effective date at all. The handicap certificate is the only requirement the club publishes for visitors — no affiliated-club letter or introduction is mentioned anywhere on rcgc.in, which is not the same as a guarantee that none will be asked for at the desk. The club publishes nothing about reciprocal-club, IGU-handicap or temporary-membership routes. It remains competitively active: the Challenge Tour's Kolkata Challenge was played here 13–16 March 2025 and won by Joshua Berry in a play-off. Coaching exists on the ground despite the club site's silence: TSG Academy runs a training centre at RCGC with structured junior development programmes and a coach-development track, contactable directly, though it publishes neither fees nor whether non-members may enrol.
