PERFECT GOLF POSTURE EVERY TIME
KERROD GRAY GOLF · 6:40
Most beginners stand to the ball hunched and over-flexed — and that rounded position quietly causes a huge share of bad shots. Kerrod Gray's fix is short and repeatable: get the spine neutral, hinge from the hips, and check it the same way every time. Watch once, then use it as your pre-range posture reset.

If the grip is your connection to the club, stance and posture are your connection to the ground — a solid, balanced setup is what makes a swing repeatable and powerful. It feels awkward at first (hips back, arms hanging, tilted forward), but every pro sets up this way because it works. It's also the one part of golf you can practise anywhere — no course, range, or ball needed.

STEP BY STEP
CheckpointSet your feet and ball position

Feet about shoulder-width for balance. Move the ball forward as the club gets longer: middle of the stance for wedges, slightly forward for mid-irons, up near your lead foot for the driver.

CheckpointWeight 50/50, in your arches

Even weight between both feet, centred in the arches — not leaning back on your heels or out on your toes.

CheckpointHinge from the hips, not the knees

Tilt forward from your hips with a straight spine (don't round your shoulders) — that's what lets your arms hang naturally. Bending from the knees or the back is the classic beginner fault.

CheckpointA little knee flex — knees over toes

Just enough bend to feel athletic, not a squat, with your knees pointing the same way as your toes.

TipLet the arms hang

Don't reach out or pull the club in — let your arms drop naturally from your shoulders and hold the club lightly.

BY FEEL
FeelStand like a shortstop

Balanced, knees flexed, weight slightly forward — ready to react, not locked in place.

DrillSit onto a bar stool

Pretend to perch on a tall stool — it engages your hips without collapsing into a knee-bend squat.

DrillThe hanging-arms test

Hold the club at waist height, then hinge from the hips until the head reaches the ground. Arms feeling stretched or cramped? Adjust your distance to the ball.

FeelKeep the triangle intact

Picture a triangle between your shoulders and arms at address, and keep its shape through the swing.

Stance and posture are the foundation — get them wrong and even great mechanics fall apart. The best part: you don't need a course, a range, or even a ball to practise. It feels ridiculous at first, but nail your setup and every part of the swing gets easier and more consistent.

The foundation everything is built on.
